Serving His Community: How Jaden Balances FLCCA and Volunteer Work

Stories & Spotlights
FLCCA student

A Florida Cyber Charter Academy (FLCCA) student is pursuing academic excellence whilst making a difference in his community.

A proud FLCCA student since first grade, Jaden is now a rising senior and plans to complete his K12 journey at the school.

A  ten-year Journey

When reflecting on over a decade of online learning, Jaden is thankful for FLCCA’s helpful structure, allowing him to learn and grow.

“I have always enjoyed my time here at FLCCA. It is very flexible, the course options that I can choose from are very diverse. There’s many, many pros,” he shared.

One of the biggest pros Jaden mentioned was the dedicated staff who have guided him through enriching classes and dedicated support.

“I really liked Spanish with Mrs. Stauffer; she is amazing. This past year, I took precalculus with Mr. Guerry, and he is great, too. I could go down the whole list, but there are so many good teachers. Another reason why FLCCA has been amazing,” he shared.

Discovering a Passion for Volunteering

When not doing schoolwork, Jaden is volunteering his time at Give Kids the World Village, a nonprofit organization that provides resources to children with critical illnesses. Thanks to the flexibility of his FLCCA coursework, he is able to volunteer at least two times a week.

“All of the volunteer shifts are very fun. I get to interact with all these families and hear their stories. They come from all across the US. I’ve also met many from Canada and across the pond as well,” Jaden said.

One of his favorite exhibits in the village is Mayor Clayton’s Wonderlab, a STEM lab that encourages the kids to use their minds and be creative.

“It ranges from activities like making bracelets to connecting circuits together to control little robots. It’s a very cool place, I love it there,” he said.

The Online Atmosphere

With a virtual school environment, having an interactive and collaborative atmosphere is very important. And ever since his early years, FLCCA has always provided Jaden opportunities to engage with his peers.

“They always have cooking clubs, I remember those from elementary and middle school, those were always fun to do. Since being in high school, I’ve gotten to join the math club and get to make cool projects for P.I. day, which is always fun,” Jaden said.

Going forward, Jaden is preparing for his senior year and looking forward to the future. He received a job-offer to work for Give Kids the World Village full-time, an opportunity he is considering pursuing post-graduation.
