FLCCA Student Shines on National Stage at K12 Robotics Competition

We are thrilled to celebrate the remarkable achievement of Josiah, a talented 6th grade student at Florida Cyber Charter Academy (FLCCA), who recently earned second place in the prestigious K12 National Robotics Competition. The event, presented by Stride Inc., brought together students from across the country to showcase their skills in robotics and programming.

From Virtual Rounds to National Recognition
Josiah, along with his team, CyberCATS (Coding and Technical Stuff), has been working diligently since January, advancing through the initial virtual rounds of the competition. Their journey culminated in a thrilling final round in Virginia, where they demonstrated their creativity, problem-solving abilities, and coding expertise.
Josiah expressed his pride and excitement, saying, “I’m so proud of CyberCATS. I love my school because I have learned so much, everything from French to coding. I have even discovered new interests through FLCCA’s clubs and programs. I can’t wait to compete in next year’s Robotics competition.”
The Competition and Achievement
Competing against eleven other teams, CyberCATS faced the challenge of programming a robot to move two blocks from a starting point to a designated square on the robotics mat. The team’s outstanding performance in the best-of-three rounds earned them a well-deserved second place.
“We’re so proud of Josiah and his team, after months of perfecting his code,” said Jerry Hulshult, Director of Schools. “This incredible accomplishment is evidence of their dedication and passion for coding. At FLCCA, we firmly believe that exploring a student’s interests through real-world opportunities plays a crucial role in their education.”
The Role of FLCCA in Student Success
Josiah’s success highlights how online learning at Florida Cyber Charter Academy (FLCCA) provides students with the flexibility and resources to pursue their passions and excel in extracurricular activities. FLCCA’s comprehensive curriculum and diverse clubs and programs empower students to discover new interests and develop valuable skills.
The nationwide robotics competition is part of K12’s Student Enrichment Programs, designed to ignite students’ interests, help them acquire new skills, and foster a sense of community and friendship. These programs encourage students to build a portfolio of creative work, laying the groundwork for future success.
