Connecting Offline: FLCCA’s Statewide Meet-Ups Bring Online Learning to Life
At Florida Cyber Charter Academy (FLCCA), we believe that online school should never mean learning alone. This year on October 24, FLCCA families across the state came together for an incredible day of connection, exploration, and fun through eight in-person meet-ups held simultaneously in different Florida communities.
From the Alligator Farm in St. Augustine to the Ripley’s Believe It or Not Museum in Orlando, students and Learning Coaches (LCs) met up with teachers and peers to explore exciting local attractions and experience learning in a whole new way. Additional meet-ups took place at Bonnett Springs Park (Lakeland), Calusa Nature Center (Fort Myers), Discovery Center (Ocala), Emerald Coast Science Center (Fort Walton Beach), Florida Aquarium (Tampa), and Green Cay Nature Center (Boynton Beach).
Each location was hosted by one or more FLCCA teachers, giving families a chance to meet their educators and classmates face-to-face. Groups met at 10 a.m. and spent about two hours exploring exhibits, discovering new facts, and building friendships that extend beyond the virtual classroom.
As Green Cay Nature Center host Arah Anderson shared, “The families had an amazing time—lots of talking and sharing stories.” Similarly, Erin Crain, who led the Emerald Coast Science Center meet-up, noted, “The kids and parents really love the social aspect of the meet-ups. This is what really sells our school. The meet-ups relate to our standards and give students real-world experience and connections to what they’re learning. It makes it more real.”
These events show that FLCCA’s commitment to academic excellence goes hand-in-hand with opportunities for meaningful social engagement. Whether students are exploring Florida’s ecosystems, discovering science in action, or simply laughing with new friends, these experiences bring our virtual community to life.
At FLCCA, we’re proud to provide an innovative, flexible online education while creating real opportunities for connection across our beautiful state. Events like these prove that online learning can be engaging, social, and full of adventure!
