Celebrating Student Success: Kieu’s Journey to the Figures WorldCup

Stories & Spotlights
Kieu

At Florida Cyber Charter Academy (FLCCA), our mission extends beyond academic success, we want to inspire and empower students to pursue their passions and turn their dreams into reality. Eleventh grader Kieu S.is a perfect example of a student who is pursuing her dreams of becoming a world champion in figure roller skating while taking online classes at FLCCA

Kieu’s Skating Journey

Kieu first discovered her love for roller skating at the age of four, where she would go to public skating sessions and join a skating club. When she turned nine, she participated in her first competition, taking home the third-place medal and solidifying her love for the sport. Her dad even says, “Once she won that first medal, though, we pretty much knew it was going to be a forever thing”. Currently she practices six  days a week for two-three  hours a day, perfecting her craft and expressing herself the best way she knows how.

The Role of FLCCA in Kieu’s Success

Kieu credits the flexibility and opportunities provided by FLCCA for enabling her to balance her training schedule with her academic responsibilities. Online education allows her to adapt her schoolwork around her skating commitments, ensuring she doesn’t fall behind academically while pursuing her passion. Kieu says “Most of my assignments, I can see two weeks before they are due, and I can plan around it and do my assignments while traveling for competitions”.

Representing the USA on the International Stage

Kieu’s hard work paid off when she qualified for world championships the previous year and traveled to Germany to compete in the Figures World Cup. Going from a local skating competitor to an international competitor and representing her home country is a testament to her hard work and dedication.

Teaching the Youth

Kieu is not only an amazing skater, but she is also an amazing role model. More than anything she is very passionate about keeping the sport alive and seeing that others get to enjoy it as much as she does. She sees herself teaching or judging future competitions in her future and loves seeing kids accomplish new tricks and routines.
