Bringing Language to Life: Inside FLCCA’s Expanding ASL Program

Stories & Spotlights

At Florida Cyber Charter Academy (FLCCA), language is more than just words—it’s connection. And for students enrolled in our growing American Sign Language (ASL) program, that connection is being built one sign at a time.

Since joining FLCCA, Mr. Nasso has grown the ASL program to include ASL I, II, and III, giving students a deeper and more immersive experience with the language. From grammar structures to receptive skills, students are not only learning how to sign—they’re learning how to communicate

“I have the opportunity to make a language fun to learn,” Mr. Nasso says with a smile. And he really means it.

Inside Mr. Nasso’s virtual classroom, lessons are interactive and engaging. Through games and challenges, students sharpen their signing skills in real time. A class favorite? Finger-spelling games. Mr. Nasso signs a word letter by letter, and students race to respond—either typing their answers in the chat or saying them aloud. It’s a simple activity, but one that builds speed, accuracy, and enthusiasm for learning.

By turning language into connection and culture into community, Mr. Nasso is helping students see the power of communication through a new lens. Whether they’re just starting with ASL I or diving into the nuances of ASL III, students leave his classes with more than just a language—they gain empathy, expression, and a whole new way to engage with the world.

Initiatives in FLCCA’s special programs like ASL, highlight the incredible opportunities available to students. Through engaging instruction and real-world skills, students are learning to communicate in new ways, connect across cultures, and gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.
