For families with children involved in competitive sports, balancing schoolwork with practices, tournaments and travel can be challenging. As schedules become busier, parents often look for an educational option that allows their child to pursue their passion while staying focused on academics.

For Kristin, that has meant finding the right balance for her son, Felix, who has loved baseball from a young age. As his passion for the sport grew, so did his commitment to practices, games and tournaments.

That’s one of the reasons Kristin’s family chose Florida Cyber Charter Academy (FLCCA).

As a homeschool-based program, FLCCA gives Felix the flexibility to organize his schoolwork around his baseball schedule, allowing him to continue pursuing the sport he loves without sacrificing his education.

Finding Flexibility for a Busy Schedule

Felix’s baseball schedule includes regular practices, games, weekend tournaments, and travel competitions throughout the year. For Kristin, having the ability to adjust his schoolwork around those commitments has made balancing everything much easier.

If Felix has a tournament during the week or needs to travel, his family can adjust his school schedule and make sure he stays on track with his assignments.

Rather than having school interfere with baseball, the flexibility allows Felix to make time for both.

Learning Important Lessons Through Baseball

Beyond the time commitment, baseball has also taught Felix valuable lessons that carry over into his education and everyday life.

Through the sport, he has learned discipline, responsibility, teamwork and patience. He has also learned how to handle both winning and losing and the importance of continuing to work when things don’t go as planned.

Those experiences have helped Felix understand that success comes from effort and perseverance, both on the field and in the classroom.

What Kristin Wants Other Parents to Know

For Kristin, one of the biggest benefits of FLCCA has been knowing Felix doesn’t have to choose between his education and the sport he loves.

“I would definitely tell them to consider FLCCA. For a child who is serious about sports, having a flexible homeschool environment can make a huge difference. Felix has the freedom to focus on baseball, travel for tournaments, attend practices, and still stay on top of his education. We don’t feel like we have to choose between his academics and his passion for baseball. He can do both, and that has been one of the best things about our experience with FLCCA,” said Kristin.

As Felix continues to grow both as a student and an athlete, Kristin is proud of the commitment he puts into everything he does and excited to see where his hard work takes him next.
